Been at this music thing now seriously since 1998. I waited till I was well beyond the age of 21 to persue a second career. Took about 4 years of serious practice [ average 6-8 hours daily ] before I felt confident about performing in public. I started like most musicians I suppose. Open mics. Met lots of talented musicians and finally played with a singer/guitarest for awhile. We eventually went separate ways and I continued to hone my musicial skills till I joined a forming band in Ft. Collins. I had been teaching myself how to sing and became the lead vocalist and instrumentalist for this band. We played early country music and performed publicly for about a year. Now I am on my own again and ready to be part of a working band. I don't like the solo thing at all. I would much rather be in a small acoustic band. Would also consider being in a duo act with a female singer. The Dobro lends itself quite well to the female voice. As for being in a band, having a good relationship with each other is paramount to everything else. Professional appearance and attitude is an absolute must. I don't particularly want to play bluegrass exclusively. Or even country. Prefer to mix it up. And in a very polished way. Regular practice as a group is a must. I am very open minded and willing to learn from others. If you can teach me something then I'm willing to learn. I expect the same from fellow band members. For the immediate future I must stay local because of a family situtation. Traveling out of state is out of the question for now. By local I mean Front Range, Denver to Wyoming, mountain area perhaps. Music is going to be my second career and perhaps my only career in the future. I am willing to put in the time and effort it takes to produce a professional sound. I do not smoke tobacco, and drink only a little. I've no problem with those that do, as long as it doesn't interfere with the music. Loud, boistrious people are not on my list of likeable people. I avoid them at all costs. OK there you have it. This is where I'm coming from, where I'm at, and where I want to go. I intend to go for it. Thanks.
